There is a set of system databases in any version of SQL Server. The system databases are master, model, msdb and empdb. The files of these databases are stored in the MSSQL word directory Data folder of the default installation directory of SQL Server.
master database
The master database is the most important database in SQL Server. It is the core database of SQL Server. The master database contains all the login names or user IDs to which the roles belong, the name and related information of the database in the server, and the location of the database.
